Homework to the 17,12,2015

Welcome to the punch – Headhunters

In the last weeks we saw the tow thrillers Headhunters and welcome to the punch. They are thrillers because they have typical elements that significate that a movie is a thriller. The use of music, tone and happening was typical for a thriller. But both movies aren’t that what I expected when I hear thriller.
The movie Hadehunters is a Norwegian-Swedish action thriller about the live of Roger Brown who supports his luxurious lifestyle by stealing paintings. He tries with everything to make his wife happy and to make her love him. He and his with are both having a affair with someone else because they aren’t happy together. All that Diana (his wife) wonts is a child.
This reminds me to the fairy story Rumpelstiltskin and how we learnt is everything a remix so I would say that this is similar to the main plot of Rumpelstiltskin. After and after roger gets more in trouble and the film gets really abstract and unrealistic. It’s all about one topic insecurities. The protagonist is insecure, because he is not the perfect man. He is too small, he is not the best looking guy and he is hiding his secret life as a robber. All his doings are going back to his insecurities. Insecurities are used in movies to give the audience the opportunity to relate them self to the problems and the persons in movies. I didn’t liked the movie because it was too graphically and unrealistic for me. The thrilling part where thrilling because they were bloody and that’s more the characteristic of a horror. I prefer psychic thrillers and I couldn’t relate myself to this movie.

The second not so typical thriller that we saw was welcome to the punch. It´s a British action thriller which had a high budget ($8.5 million) but the result is in my opinion not in a balance with the opportunities that you can use with that budget. The movie is beautiful, and what I mean with beautiful the shots are perfect. Everything looks like a car advert but that’s the problem. The movie is not personal. You don’t believe in the characters. You don’t know the protagonist so you don’t care about him. All the characters aren´t authentic. Also the locations aren’t relatable. A typical thriller would be located in a usual place for example at home. So the audience can imagen the same evet in their own house. But all the locations in welcome to the punch are too grey, too impersonal, too plain.

Both movies aren’t the typical version of a thriller. It was interesting to see how different a thriller can be and if you compare them you can find some similarities. Both are quit violent and the protagonist are both middle aged men. In my opinion their both aren’t filmed in the best localisations and there are both not my favourite movies. But the characterisation of Headhunters is much better than from Welcome to the punch. It was a good example to see what happened if you don’t think about the background of your characters. It was also a good example that a high budget doesn’t promise a good and successful film. Headhunters had just a third of the budget and the film is the highest-grossing Norwegian film of all time.

BBC music Awards –Adel the absent dominating winner

This year Adel won’s the BBC Music Award for the British artist of the year. Her new album 25 has become the years biggest seller on both sides of the Atlantic after just three weeks on sale. She couldn’t be there but the send a vide message to thank for her award.

The article about the event is on the BBC news online webpage and liked with many example videos of the show, pictures and quotes from different peoples. The title of the article is `Absent Adele dominates BBC Music Awards´ but the article isn’t just about Adel and her award, what I personally because of the title expected- Its more than a summery with many added images and videos.

In my opinion the title is not matching with the content of the article and they don’t have to like so many example videos of all the different acts.

Tube stabbing

This Saturday a knife-wielding man attacked three people and slashed one victim’s throat in a London Underground station as he shouted “this is for Syria”. Now the daily news tries to prove that the perpetrator had a rate to the ISIS terror scene.

Prosecutor David Cawthorne called the stabbing "violent, sustained and unprovoked," and said pictures on Mire's phone showed he idolized ISIS. Mire stored images related to the terror group, and photos from last month's Paris attacks, Cawthorne said.

The article is not very long and linked with three you tube videos and tow pictures to visualize the content.  Therefor balance between pictures and text isn’t equal. I think they try to scare the readers with the videos and to show them how serious this topic is.

But in the end the many massage of this really visual article is just a version of a theoretical progression without any proves.

Christmas shopping

`As we rush out to the shops to take advantage of continuing Black Friday discounts, or go online for Cyber Monday deals, UK shoppers are expected to have spent around £2bn - up 30% on last year.´ was the opener for the BBC news report. The article is about the fact that we all panic because Christmas is knocking on the door. But it gets more comment to do online shopping. We are spending more than ever online. It saves us the trip to the busy shops to find the perfect present.

The article is written in the `we´ form what connects the reader with the happening. You can identify yourself to the article and the BBC also added a few statistics and numbers.

The main point of the report is that the online shopping cause less busy shops but all the delivery vans change the traffic situation to the worst. We never had so many parcel vans on the streets. This a typical event. You can compare it to the general principle of evolution. If you solve one problem you will cause a new one with the solution.

I think online shopping is a easy way to shop presents but I also never thought about the fact what that for the traffic situation means. I prefer to buy my presents in real shops and spare the delivery van traffic.

Gone Girl

Gone Girl – Film Analyse

Nick in from of the missing poster for Amy
The American psychological thriller gone Girl was produce in 2014 and is directed by David Fincher. He also directed the production of the movie Fight club 1999.
The main story of the film gone girl is the search after the disappeared Amy.
You have to protagonists, Nick Dunne who is Amy’s husband and Amy Elliott Dunne herself.
The narrative is nonlinear and and you get many different points of view.
The film also visualize how much pressure the media practice and how they show you different versions of the truth.

The plot is typical for a thriller extraordinary events happen to ordinary people. The marriage of Amy and Nick seem perfect but she isn’t. They both try to be perfect and try to control respectively the other. Amy disappeared at the 06.07.2012 and the movie starts with Nick’s point of view. He, the police and many volunteer helpers are searching for her. She is a famous lady because her parents wrote children’s books based on her life called “Amazing Amy”. The Police follow Amy’s leads. After and after it look like Nick killed his own wife. Al the media is reporting about the proses and change the truth. Around the half of the move changes to Amy’s view. You start understand really happened and that Amy made it look like Nick killed her. She prepared everything to make the murder look real even without a dead body. Nick has to fight for the trust of his twin sister and try to convince the police and the media about his innocent.

I really like the movie because it’s a bit like a puzzle and you get one after another peace and ate the end all your thoughts match together like a puzzle. The film show how much the media changes the truth and I like it that you get different points of view.

Technical/visual/audio codes that were used to make the movie thrilling:

-       Mysterious music
-       Unexpected twist
-       Ordinary people
-       Unordinary event
-       Reliable locations, problems, insecurities, feelings
-       Heartbeat as background sound to boost the paste
-       Different points of view
-       Buffing event
-       Unexpected ending

Christmas adverts

Christmas is coming. The shops sorts selling Christmas articles, Christmas lights get switches on, its getting colder, the radio starts to play Christmas songs but above all you can see all the new Christmas adverts in the telly programs.

Here you can see the Waitrose Christmas advert 2015…

It starts with a direct question to us the audience and then happy music about eating starts. You can see a family getting ready for Christmas. Everybody is happy and you can see a lot of food because Waitrose tries to sell you this food. So they used the personal identity audience theory.

The Sainsbury´s advert is more build up like a fairy story…

You can see how easy your Christmas could be a disaster just because of your cat. This cat is destroying everything because of a nightmare and her unskilfulness. But the horrible story has a happy end because all the neighbour come together to clean up the mess and to enjoy Christmas all together. The moral of the story is that we all have to help echo other. For me this advert used the forming friendship audience theory. They show you that you should louse the hope and that there will always be a fiend that will help you. It’s also entertaining because of the fairy style. You can imagine this scene also happen to you.

The House of Fraser Christmas advert seems more like a music video…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wwWEzwJ6Ps

You can see a lot of different outfits and also people in every age group. This stands for all the age grope they are selling they products for. The song is a bit rebellion and the refrain is about `don’t tell me what to do´ it shows that every one’s own Christmas has his own rules. For me it the personal identity audience theory.

At least the LidlChristmas advert...
It starts with *welcome tot he Lidl school of Christmas´. Christmas is every year again a big drama. So much to do, so many unusual people around,… This advert tries to make Christmas not to look easy but possible. In The advert they try to prevent all the typical Christmas problems. One example is the part where the teacher tell the students `sometimes you get a good present, sometimes you get a bad present, but the thing is reaction´, Everyone knows the feeling when you are disappoint with your present. Again this advert is for me a example for the personal identity and also a bit entertainment audience theory.

First snow - Chaos across the country as commuters battle the big freeze

This week the most soled daily tabloid newspaper `The Sun´ was reporting about the chaos that the first snow this winter for all the commuters caused. Roads were closed, drivers had to pay more attention to prevent accidents and some commuters wasn’t able to get to work. Many took advantage of the winter weather like enjoy some weekend sledging.

The article is very short and the balance between text and pictures is mismatched. You can compare the article to a diary entry. `The sun´ told us about a more or less unimportant happiness that everybody anyway noticed. The sorry has no manful content aside that we had snow and the temperature was obviously under zero. In my opinion this article is not educating and needless. I think they picked this story because a lot of their reader ship can identify their own problems with the problems that happened because of the first snow. They try to relate the reader to the story.

France flies air attack to IS in Syrian

I found this article when I opened my internet explorer. The `mns´ news are my homed desktop and this headliner caught my attention.

Is says this is France response to the awful terroristic attack on Paris at Friday. France threw 20
Bombs onto the IS-stronghold Rakka. The target of this attack was the IS-trainings camp, camp, command centre and weapons stash.

This sound a bit like the beginning of a war. On attacks the other one and then the attacked one has to attack back. Every fight, argumentation, conflict or war grows on this simple principal. The children act the same `If you robber me my chocolate I will do the same to you! ´ I think it doesn’t helps to slap back. And I hope that this is not the beginning of an awful conflict. It will cost more innocent human lives.

Bonfire Night 2015 – How to keep your kids and pets safe this Guy Fawkes Night

This was the headliner in the online newspaper mirror. Mirror was originally pitched to the middle class reader, it was transformed into a working-class newspaper after 1934, in order to reach a large new audience. This article was publishes at the 5th November.

The article is about the dangerous to use fireworks and how to protect you self. To make the whole article more demonstrative they added four pictures and linked one YouTube video. The video is about the bonfire night 2014. It shows how the bonfire night went wrong. You can see a lot of fire, an explosion and the video is edited with background music and text. The text face facts about the numbers of injures in the weeks surrounding 5th November 2014 because of the irresponsible handling of fireworks and bonfires.

With this video mirror tries to scare the reader and to open their eyes about the dangerous. The publishing date was at Thursday directly before the bonfire main weekend to remind all those readers who were going to celebrate ate the weekend.

I think it not wrong to warn everybody about the dangerous that are connected with bonfire night but in my opinion mirror pushed a bit too hard.

Homework from the 4th november

Censorship

Everywhere in the media you can find censorships in different forms and with different reasons. The purpose of censorships is easy to explain. They are made to protect the audience. A good example of censorships is the age-restricted for movies. This is a way to protect the younger audience for seeing content that might be not made for this age group. When you have a movie that shows a lot of violence, vulgarity, sexually explicit or physical afflicting content you will have an age television rating. This rating will order that you won’t be able to buy this movie, ore see this movie in the cinema if you are too young. But we all know that there are enough ways to see those movies if you are too young. You can ask older friend to buy you the film, you can see it online,… .

Also many parents allow their kids to watch movies that aren’t suggest to be seen by too young audience.

The censorships are made for a god reason. But it’s hard to control if the audience is in the border of the age ratings. In the official television program you have watershed times. That means that the television senders are allowed to sow stronger content after 21:00. You have different watershed times for different limits. The Content gets from limit to limit stronger.

You don’t just find censorships in movies. Also in the music business censorships are a big point. For many songs you have to versions. You have the real version and the `clean version of a song´. That means that is the content of a song is for example too rude you might find a `clean version´ od this song. All the songs that you hear in the official radio senders are censored, so they are the clean version of the song.

If the real version is `Body like the summer, fucking like no other…´ you will find ` Body like the summer, freaking like no other…´ in the censored version.

Another form of censorships that shows that censorships are made to protect the audience are the epileptic warnings in the television before flashing scenes.

As I already said it’s nearly impossible to control if the censorships in for of age ratings, warnings or watersheds get considered. But you have to understand that they aren’t made without a reason. They are made for us the audience and maybe some of us should pay a bit more attention to this censorships. There are no reasons why a little kid has to see a scary horror movie. The kid will get nightmares and that’s not the purpose of those horror movies. They are not censored but the age rating already shoes you that this movie is not made for your kid. Also you can’t control if kids turning the television of after 21:00.

All in all the censorships are to show made to protect us the audience and they show you for which age group a products was made for.

Week 45

Rugby world cup

On the official web page from the rugby world cup 2015 you can find obviously many rugby connected reports. I wrote a report about the top New Zeeland all blacks play Daniel Cater who is named as the World Rugby Player of the Year 2015. New Zealand were named the World Rugby Team of the Year after the successfully 34-17 against Australia in the final on Saturday.

Carter said after his award: "It's a dream come true. It's not why you play the game, for personal accolades, but at the same time it's very pleasing and a very proud moment because I've had to work extremely hard, especially these last two to three years with the injuries that I've had. To come out fighting on the other side and achieve what I've achieved personally, but also what the team has achieved, it has been a very special moment of my career."

But the most interesting part about the whole article for me was the adverbs under this report. The producers of the page try to catch the attention of the reader to the women rugby world cup. `World Rugby Women’s Player of the Year – Kendra Cocksedge, New Zealand´ is the slogan that you can read under the article of Daniel Cartes archives. This is an example for gender stereotypes nobody is interest in the women’s rugby world cup.

For me this is a very sad fact because it shouldn’t be a different is you see mans or women’s rugby.

Back to the future II

The passed Wednesday was the `back to the future day´. All the news shows, newspapers and radio sander were reporting about this date. `Back to the Future Part II´ is an American science-fiction adventure comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Bob Gale. The non-linear story of the movie starts on 26th October, 1985. The main characters start at this date a time travel to the date 21th October 2015.

When the movie was new the people were impress by the way the future could look like. Now it’s a interesting compare to what the life really looks like in year 2015. We don’t have fling cars but some inventions are carried out. And some are already obsolete like the fax machine. For many `back to the future´ fans was the passed Wednesday a stated occasion for thinking back to the time were the movie was  brand new and showed a version of the future.

I saw the movie and for me it’s impressive how much attention this date got. It’s interesting to see what the people thought our life would be.

Weekly News

Starbucks concerned Italia

The German daily newspaper `süddeutsche Zeitung´ is a quality journalism paper and is produced in Munich. It’s for the left-wing readership and I think they tried to call attention about the power of Starbucks and brands in general. This article shows how brands are destroying cultures and the individuality in general.

Starbucks try’s since about 20 years to get placed in Italia. 2016 they finally open they first filial in Milan. The Italians didn’t wanted to support Starbucks until now because they are sure that it’s the wrong way to product cafe. The indigenous people are still sceptic and say that that Starbucks is just the biggest opposed of an original Italian coffee shop and that Starbucks can’t beat the traditional Italian cafe. The cafe that you can but at Starbucks cost the double but lures lots of tourist. At least Starbucks will be successful in Milan. The secret is the fee Wi-Fi that you get when you buy something. It’s bad too see how Wi-Fi addicted we all are even if we don’t recognize it. So it’s not really about the cafe or snacks it’s about the comfort that Starbucks promises you. To offer free Wi-Fi is a good and working way to catch consumers not just for coffee shops also for every other places where you try to make the consumer stay.

Short Term 12 - Analyse

Short Term 12 – Analyse

The American film `short term 12´ was produced in year 2013 and is written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The genre of this film is drama with the subgenre social realism. The main topics of the film are family dramas, depressions, self-doubt’s, insecure, relationships, love and childhoods. You can see typical representation of social classes with the example of unprivileged kids. The narrative of the film is linear and I think it was made for the teenager and adult audience grope. The story starts with the introduction of Nate a new staff and ends with a conversation of all the staff but Nate is now a part of the team. So you have a kind of a revision. That completes the circle and you can see a good compare to the beginning.

All the actors and settings that you can see are looking natural and real because they aren’t Hollywood perfect. The rooms aren’t perfect arranged and also all the actors are looking natural. They aren’t perfect rouged or perfect dressed, that make them seem more real and the audience can identify himself better. Another used technical code is the over the shoulder shot (OS) which helps the audience place the characters in their setting and it also integrate the audience into the story. The most time the colours are light in the film, I think they should be like an opposed of the feelings from the kids. The colours are light and bride and you can see sunlight and other natural light colours. But when they are in the sun they are just in the shadow and you can see the sun in the background. Or you can see the bright sunlight fall into a dismal room. For me this visual code should show you how the feel and the depressive mood.

The background music is mostly plain calm instrumental but the bigger part of the movie is without background music. But for example the music at the Spanish party is very happy and also what happened during this party is positive. So you can see that the music and the content is connected and matching very well. But they are also scenes without any music just the voices of the people. That’s a good tool to visualize how unpleasing some situations are.

The development of the relationship between Grace and Jayden is good made. At the begin Grace is a persons of authority and she seems good organized but after and after you get more information about her and her passed. Also you understand why she wants to help this kids. In the scene where she show Jayden her self-denials they start to get closer and the audience start to understand the equalities of they life. The house of Jayden is very dark because that visualize that it’s a dangerous place and that she is afraid of her own home. For me Jayden looks also like a stereotype depresses emo girl. Her skin is very light, her hair very dark and she use strong eyeliner.

The message of the film is you are not alone. Every problem that you have to solve someone else also had to sole before. And also if you think you are in the worsts part of your life there will be someone that have a worsted life than yours. Grace helps the kids because she know how it feels to have an exhausting childhood. And also Mason has a problematic passed. When he had no one else his adopting parents went there for him and showed him what is like to be loved. So the bough help those kids. It’s about hope and I really liked the movie. It’s not that kind of movies that I used to watch but I liked it because it was different.

World hunger

Child in south Sudan: in this country violence and drought
endanger the feeding of the people
The numbers of hungering people is lesser then in the years before. But still 795 million people have to hunger. In this year already 600.000 people had to pay with their life because they hadn’t enough food. Every year 3,1milion children under five years die, because they don’t get enough food. The `World Food Program´ says that when you don’t eat enough you can’t hold your weight and you lose power. Also easy work will be harder for you and your immune system can’t protect you anymore. So a small illness can cost your life.

In Germany we trough 18 million tonnes enjoyable food away. We have to fix this! How can we though our good food away if we know that so many people have to die just because they don’t have enough food. I feel very bad when I realize tis and I think this problem can be solves if we all would pay more attention.

Crash

Crash (2004) – Analyse

The movie Crash directed by Paul Haggis is an ensemble* drama film. It’s located in LA and you get a taste of different family dramas. The sorry of the movie is multi protagonist and non-linear. The move begins at `today´ at a site of crime. After a few minutes it goes back to `yesterday´ to explain the audience what happened. At the beginning you here this conversation (look picture) and I think it’s very important for the film. Because all the characters come together but not on a good way. They get together in a conflict or crash into each other. And what they start to feel when they `crash´ into each other is the blame, anguish, hate, violence, dishonesty, loneliness, the reality of their audition life.

You can see many stereotypes like gender stereotypes, race stereotypes, age stereotypes,… . The movie shows you for each stereotype an example person, group or a whole example family. We have the tow typical black car-jackers, we have the typical rich with married couple how get robbed by the black car-jackers, we have a greenly little girl. You see all those stories about the different people and they all come together on different ways. It’s about daily problems like the crimes, immigration, poverty, anguish, violence of police officers.

The whole film is very dark and you don’t see bright sunlight or the blue sky and the mood is could. The music is mostly in English but sometimes also other languages. I started crying during I watched the film so I can say it’s really emotional and target. For me the different relationships were good constructed and its interesting how all the different worlds of the protagonists come together. It was interesting to see how the different people start to act because of their need.

*ensemble: no main protagonist, all the main characters are same important. So the actors get lesser then they usual gage.

Gender stereotypes

Gender stereotypes

Gender roles and clichés are a big part of our daily life. Everywhere are the differences between female and male. At work, in the school, in sport clubs and especially in the media.

News and social networks
Example for a stereotype swop: the home standing dad and the carrier wife
We have got many different stereotypes ordered after different criteria. When you see a person you don’t know you just can judging this person by how he or she look like.
For example you are sitting in the bus and see a black boy, baggy wearing trousers, hoodie, dreadlocks, bum-bag and Jamaica coloured necklace. Yesterday you saw a similar looking boy in the news ‘north Croydon – after long search drug dealer arrested’. You don’t know everything about that man in the bus but you judge about him jut about what he looks like. Maybe he is the police officer that founded the drug dealer? For you he look like a drug dealer because of the media. The media shows you a picture of a drug dealer and you save this picture in your mind. Now your stereotype drug dealer looks like the man from the news. But why the Ugg’s wearing white girl shouldn’t be a drug dealer. Maybe in the Starbucks coffee she wears isn’t a Frappuccino? Maybe she don’t give her too much makeup wearing and instagram addicted best fiend not a Starbucks cup full of coffee but rather filled with drugs.
The news and social networks produce categories of peoples.

Magazines
The media support this gender stereotypes for example with their magazines.
The media decide to make different magazines for different age groups and also for different interest groups. But they make the most different between the magazines for female consumers and male consumers.
There are many magazines about cars, computers and other technical contents. Those magazines are more directed to the male consumers. The most manpower in technical companies are male. The media use facts like this to support the gender stereotypes.
The fewest mans would by a magazine which cover shows an ordinarily wife with slogans on it like ‘pretty in pink’ ‘shopping and styling tips for autumn 2015 – exclusive the 20 autumn must haves’. It’s reproducible that no man is interest in those topics but why does the media afford to say us what we have to buy? What beautiful is? Who decide what a must have for this autumn is?
The designers. They buy pages of magazines for print down their promotion. They present headliners they products and the media show pictures how those wearing ore using the new products.
The media think that each of us is insecure or have self-doubts. They tell us what we have to do, to eat, to wear, to drink, to buy, … to get a perfect life.
But especially the media which try to tell female consumers how to get a better or perfect live are very discriminating. On the most covers you can find slogans with the words ‘sexy’ or ‘beauty’ in. These kind of media influence reduce women onto what they look like and they sexuality. They support gender roles by printing recipes just in women magazines. That is very sexist! Why shouldn’t the man be interest in cooking?
Just because the conservative picture of a women a housewife is.
In not one male magazine you will find endless reports about ‘Family and a job? How to manage that?’. That’s also a support of the stereotype working husband.
The number of househusbands grows, that good because there shouldn’t be a different if the mother or the father earn the money for a family. A father can also clean the house, do the cooking and wash the clothes. But you won’t find any tips about how to manage the live of the homesteading parent in a man magazine.

Work
When you look at big companies the most directors are male. The sentence ´Men are not nurses, they are doctors´ is unfortunately trough. With a biologic view that makes just sense because women are more emotional and have more intuition. The prefrontal cortex which cause those properties of a male gets smaller because the testosterone stops the development. But that shouldn’t be the excuse why so less males are nurses.
When you look at sportspersons the most famous sportspersons are males. When you are watching TV you see male soccer, male rugby, male football, male basketball but why? The football player earn so much more money than the female football player.
Back to the cooking parts that a missed in the male magazines. All the star cookers are males. Why does the stereotype man shouldn’t coke?

Finally you can say the media create stereotypes.
